Week 8 - Flotsam

Flotsam By David Wiesner

Lesson 1 - ERIC Dog (Your child will know what this means!)

Lesson 2 - Sequencing & Retelling

* You may wish to watch the video again before you start today's task *

* Either cut out & stick in order the pictures below, or number them from 1-6.

* Verbally retell the story to a grown up / older sibling.

Make sure you use full sentences, joining them with time words, and interesting vocabulary:

e.g. 'One sunny day, a young boy found an old, rusty camera washed up on the beach.'

Remember: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?

Lesson 3 - Postcard

* What is wrong with this sentence? Use the poster below to help you:

'i am six and i have a pet dog.'

* Today, you are going to retell the story, in the form of a postcard from the boy in the story to a friend.

This means you will need to use the first person pronoun 'I', rather than 'he'.

* Using your sequenced pictures from yesterday to remind you, write some sentences as 'Tim' to tell your friend 'Millie' what happened. You can use the postcard template below, or write straight into your workbook.

Superheroes & Pirates: 3 + sentences, using 'and' + 'because', Phase 5 phonics, time words, and some exciting describing words.

Aliens & Monsters: 3 simple sentences, using 'and' if you can, Phase 3 phonics, and some describing words.

* Remember to use your sound mat to help you with spelling, and remember to use 'I' not 'he'.

Lesson 4 - What happens next?

* Look carefully at the final page of the story (see photo below).

* Talk to a grown up / older child about what you think might happen next.

* In the boxes on the storyboard below, or in your workbook, draw what you think might happen on the next three pages of the book.

* Write a sentence for each picture:

Superheroes & Pirates: 3 sentences, using 'and' / 'because', Phase 5 phonics, and some exciting describing words.

Aliens & Monsters: 3 simple sentences, using 'and' if you can, Phase 3 phonics, and some describing words.

* Remember to use your sound mat to help you with spelling.
